STATEMNT OF BSNL CMD***
New
Delhi, May 4:
Turning
around Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd to its
former glory is the top priority for the
newly appointed Chairman and Managing
Director, Mr R.K. Upadhyay. To achieve
this, BSNL plans to enter new business
areas in the telecom sector and may also
approach the Government to seek
permission for unlocking the value of
real estate owned by it.
"We have
to maximise our revenues from the
existing levels. Then, there are a whole
lot of business opportunities available
in the market to tap. With the kind of
reach BSNL has, it should not be very
difficult to get a major share of
enterprise business. Many new avenues
for unlocking the value are on the
anvil," Mr Upadhyay said.
"We
will definitely emerge from the
financial crisis," he added just 3 days
after he was given the responsibility to
head the public sector company.
BSNL had
posted a net loss of Rs 1,823 crore on
revenue of Rs 32,046 crore in 2009-10.
It had recorded a net profit of over Rs
10,000 crore in 2005-06. According to
estimates, BSNL is expected to post a
net loss of Rs 2,725 crore on revenue of
Rs 31,738 crore during 2010-11. BSNL has
also been steadily losing market share.

and AGS(HQ) attended and presented
AIBSNLEA views /suggestions. During
discussions in addition to BSNL
viability, realignment of staff, review
of standards of staffing norms, Director
